Neuropsychiatric Consultation

Neuropsychiatry is a branch of clinical sciences that combines neurology, neuroscience and psychiatry. With extensive post-doctoral training within this area, we offer clinical consultation and comprehensive solutions for complex cases that require a multidisciplinary mind-brain-body approach. Our expertise can assist in the management of psychiatric problems or behavioural difficulties caused by neurological conditions such as dementia related psychosis.

Neuropsychological Assessments

Neuropsychological assessments are comprehensive evaluations of brain function and behaviour. Assessments help determine the presence, nature and severity of cognitive dysfunction and its impact on daily life. Neuropsychological evaluations are requested specifically to help understand how the frontal system of the brain is working.

Reasons for Neuropsychological assessments include (but  not limited to):

  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses in cognitive functioning
  • Brain injury as a result of an accident, concussion, or infection
  • Neurological conditions such as epilepsy (seizures) or brain tumour
  • Assessing changes in cognitive functioning over time

Mental Capacity Assessments

Capacity assessments are used to determine whether an individual has the ability to use and understand information to make and communicate an informed decision.

Impairements or disturbance that may affect capacity include (but not limited to):

  • Mental health conditions
  • Neurological conditions
  • Severe learning disabilities
  • Delerium
  • Substance or alcohol misuse

Cognitive Remediation

Cognitive Remediation is an evidenced-based intervention that leads to substantial improvements in functioning and quality of life for individuals experiencing challenges with cognition (such as poor memory and attention) and difficulties with day to day functioning. PsyNeu’s neuroscience-based cognitive remediation programme develops 43 cognitive skills necessary for learning, including the foundational cognitive skills that our brains use to take in, store, understand, categorize and retrieve information.
